We can’t believe it but it’s been 3 lightspeed years since we launched the world’s first 3G radio service for free with Virgin Radio. We have moved so much since then, so here’s some interesting flashbacks.
Virgin Radio:
-
Listened on mobile on all 6 continents;
-
Covering 141 countries. We have got even a bloke (assuming here) out of Botswanian jungle and exotic island such as Seychelles;
-
Over a million (yes a MILLION) consumer contacts—we reckon it’s soon going to be as big as Virgin Radio online (which is the 3rd biggest online radio in the world);
-
Supporting over 200 mobile handset models (that’s bloody tough—kudos to the tech team!)
*You can get the Virgin Radio service free from wap.sydus.com right from your phone.
We then launched, another first, with Bacardi Global—first time for a brand to marketing thru digital music experience over mobile and web. This one was accessed over 118 countries but in my personal and humble opinion & in the true spirit of this blog, we must confess, we totally made a mess of it.
Here’s why.
Who we are?
Sydus (sie-dus) is a Greek word meaning rare alignment of planetary and heavenly objects that do not occur naturally. The purpose is to bring together the music industry, consumers like you and me, brands and mobile industry in way to provide music in a legal free manner across all digital platforms: mobile, PC, social communities, blogs and whatever may come after this.
How do we do it?
Well, we have built a world leader technology that is ridiculously robust and scalable and can manage hundreds of concurrent users across our application that works on 200+ mobile phones, all PC browsers and across every new web social community.
· We also work closely with record labels to LEGALLY bring the best content in the world to the consumers for free.
· We then work with brands to create unique selection of music that reflects the brand, creating a branded experience.
· For the consumer, it’s a way to discover new music for free that is very local and relevant to them whilst discreetly reflecting the brand experience.
Why are we blogging?
Unlike other companies, we prefer to give you a first person narrative giving you firsthand experience to the inner workings of our world. There is so much happening at Sydus every day, technologically, in our industry and more importantly with our users. So what a great way to share our excitement, frustrations and triumphs.
